The Mental Burden of Running Certification Programmes

Running a certification programme brings a unique set of challenges. It's not quite stress, but rather a constant awareness of unresolved tasks lurking in the background. Whether it's an open action item that hasn't been checked recently, a compliance line marked provisional three months ago, a draft document based on unfinalized assumptions, or a subcontractor deliverable that was due last week, the uncertainty is palpable.

Experienced certification engineers often develop a mental inventory of everything that needs attention. This approach works until the complexity of the programme exceeds what one mind can manage. At that point, the focus shifts from engineering to simply not forgetting critical details.

This is a solvable issue, but it requires acknowledging that tools like spreadsheets, shared folders, and weekly status calls may not be enough to address it.

Does this resonate with anyone working in DOA or STC environments?
